Ian passed away at Royal Bolton Hospital on Monday 14 August with his wife, Margaret and daughters, Kathryn and Louise, present at his bedside. He had been ill for some time with lung disease but had been battling on through until his heath took a sudden turn for the worse in 2023.

He was 80 years old. Born in 1943, he lived his entire life in Horwich. He was the youngest of three brothers (Steve, Mick and Frank) and one sister, Nellie and is outlived by his cousin Madge, who was like a second sister to him. He went to school at Rivington & Blackrod Grammar School (as it was then) and spent most of his working life at Leigh’s Paints in Bolton as an industrial Chemist.

He leaves behind Margaret, his loving wife of 56 years, and his two daughters, Louise and Kathryn, as well as two much-loved grandsons, Finn and Keir.

He will be sadly missed by all his family. He loved to travel, he loved the sun, he loved his food, he loved to socialise with his family, he was clever and generous and funny and fiercely political and independent to the end.

We miss you xx

Ian’s Funeral will be at Overdale Crematorium West Chapel at 2pm on Thursday 7th September followed by a celebration of his life at Curleys, Wallsuches, Horwich BL6 6PP
