In loving memory of Penny Marrows who sadly passed away on 14th August 2023.

Penny was born on the 7th March 1951 at home in Rufforth near York. She was the third child of George and Mary Marrows and had three siblings, Susan, Danny and Jack. The family moved to a house in Tockwith built by her father on the site of a WW2 bomber plane crash. There she went to the local primary school, then to Millmount Grammar School for Girls in York. In her mid-twenty's Penny studied Three-dimensional Art and Design at York Tech. She went on to teach art to adults including in prisons in Yorkshire and London and at Claypenny in Easingwold. Penny met Tim in London in 1992 at an etching workshop in Brixton. They moved with their baby son Billy up north in 1994 where they settled in Sheriff Hutton. Penny was a sculptor, painter and printmaker, and loved her garden. She was a beloved wife, mother, sibling, aunt, great aunt, cousin and loved by all her friends. She will be sorely missed.

This little reclining figure started to crack a bit when we placed it on Penny's grave, what frost and rain, so it's now safe in my sitting room....though being reclaimed by nature

Drawing of Rupert by Penny, I a sketchbook. At City Screen York there's a memorial exhibition of Penny's work. So many marvellously skilful drawings of family and friends. But I don't want to dismantle the sketchbooks, so will post selection on this site

Penny's funeral was two years ago today. Her grave is looking beautiful, full of waving grasses, an enormous fennel, taller than the beech tree, which is also doing well. I think Penny would love the way it's a bit wild, but full of beautiful plants

Penny would've been 74 today. She loved walking through woods, knew the names of all the wild flowers. It's as if she died yesterday.I can't believe she's gone, and went through all that ghastly illness. I really do feel her spirit in the places she loved

Anthea Gomez donated £20 in memory of Penny

Dear Penny, I remember all those times at Leemans Road when your infectious laugh brightened up the room and everyone around. I can still hear it unmistakably in my mind and it makes me smile.
