In loving memory of Saverio Stravino who sadly passed away on 11th July 2023

Saverio was born to his parents Raffaele and Rosa in Alife Caserta in 1943 during World War 2. He often spoke of his earliest memory as a toddler being picked up from a man in uniform - this being his father returning from being released as a POW post the war's end in 1945.

He was brother to Michele, Giovanni, Fernando (who have all sadly passed) and Maria Sista. He often recalled stories from his childhood - stories of his school days, his friends, his family members; his military service and his multiple jobs which took him outside of his beloved Italy to Switzerland and the UK.

In June 1967, he married Ilia Carbone and remained in Italy for a short time after. They both made the decision to immigrate to the UK in September 1967 where they raised a family of 3 sons, Raffaele, Massimo and Luigi.

Saverio was a family man. It was all about the family and seeing his grand children. As soon as you entered his home, it was time for wine, drinks, and food. He was naturally warm and humorous - and sometimes stubborn….but he had a heart of gold and heaps of love to offer.

Saverio was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009. He had battled with the awful disease for 14 years. He was determined to see his 80th birthday on the 7th July. Unfortunately his battle with cancer came to an end 4 days after this date.

We will say goodbye to him on Thursday 3rd August at the Sacred Heart Church in Carlton. We will miss him dearly, now and forever.

Flowers from immediate family members only to AW Lymn - Robin Hood Street. Delivery by 9am on the 3rd August.

We would like to collect donations for Hayward House Palliative Care Unit in Nottingham. Cash collections will be taken at the church or alternatively use the link below to donate.
