After a short stay in hospital, we are very sad to announce the death of our Dad, Dario Modena who sadly passed away on 4th February 2023. Dario will be missed by so many people from his family, friends, church congregation, work colleagues, football friends, and neighbours in the village.

Active until the end, Dario was devoted to his family, especially his two little grandsons. He enjoyed his job driving children in foster care. Even though he would have been 80 this year, he was fanatical about staying fit, playing football and badminton, and often boasted about his 10 mile cycle rides and how many goals or assists he had achieved that week. He also kept fit walking his beloved dogs Rosie and Minnie, a boisterous pair he initially did not want, but over the years formed a deep bond of love and companionship.

He was known for his kindness and willingness to help anyone in need of support, taking friends and neighbours to church, hospital appointments, and any other emergency. He took pride in being part of English Martyrs RC church and appreciated all their spiritual support.

He never forgot his Italian origins and was a passionate supporter of the Italian football team and a lifelong Chelsea supporter.

Dario lost his beloved wife, Penny, in 2020 during the awful circumstances of the pandemic. He never really came to terms with her loss, however he was determined to continue her legacy by helping and supporting those around him.

He leaves his brother Giorgio, four children, Annette, Monique, Gianni, and Jak, as well as two grandsons, Luca 5, and Enzo 2. Tragically, his eldest son Sam, passed away just 3 days later on the 7th February 2023. Perhaps it is a blessing that he did not know about this.

Please use this space to leave your memories and messages and feel free to upload your special photos. You will also find a link to the funeral arrangements and a Just Giving page where donations can be made to Macmillan Cancer Support instead of flowers.

Dario was a good friend to me in my own sad time. I'll never forget his kindness. I'll never forget his snoring either. We shared a room on a footy tour in Manchester. In the morning he said he'd not slept. I said that's a neat trick snoring when you're awake! Miss you buddy

Dario was one of my Dad's closest friends, they got to know each other many years ago when my Dad had a restaurant in central London and over the years they became friends. One of my most cherished memories is the day after our wedding, Dario and Penny came with my Mum and Dad and Salvatore and I to a special lunch just the six of us in a lovely restaurant in a castle just outside Piacenza. We had a glourious day. Dario and Penny were just the loveliest couple and I always remember just how clear and tangible their love for each other was. Sending all the family massive condolences. Rest In Peace. Sami & Salva
