In loving memory of Arthur Rodney Chilcott who sadly passed away on 22nd November 2022.
My Dad was born on 4th October 1929 in Cliffe, Kent, to parents James Chilcott & Bertha Chilcott, he also had a sister Poppy. I believe his first job was working as a barge man which he did for a lot of years, he then took a job on dry land working at Fingringhoe Mill making animal feeds, it was a very manual job.
He worked sixty hour weeks and kept the family well provided for.
Dad had to retire a little early due to the detrimental effect the manual work had on his bones.
For the last few years my dads health has slowly been in decline to the point he became housebound.
From when he retired he was always in a lot of pain and no medication gave him relief from it.
There have been quite a few times we thought he was going to pass but we were lucky he always pulled through.
He knew his time was coming and he wanted me to promise him that he wouldn’t be resuscitated or go to hospital and that he only wanted a direct funeral as he wasn’t religious, I promised him these things.
We had to call the doctor out as Dad had chest pain, it turned out to be a chest infection, we got his antibiotics but the infection had taken hold. My sister told me about SinglePoint/St Helena hospice so I got in touch with them and once we had been referred to them they acted swiftly.
A doctor came and gave Dad strong pain medication which made him immediately comfortable, everything was then done to make Dads time pain free and comfortable, carers came and washed him and changed his clothes and tended to all his needs. It was a huge relief not to see him suffering anymore.
Due to the medication he was on he was now asleep all the time, he finally passed Tuesday afternoon 22nd November 2022 at the age of 93
I kept all my promises to him and I am relieved that he is no longer in pain
Dad will be cremated Tuesday morning 6th December 2022.

Thank you for all you have done for me Dad, we are going to miss you
Lots of Love
Mo & Mark

Remembering Dear Dad. May you rest in Peace.
As sad as we are to see you leave, we are glad you are no longer in pain. Knowing that you only became immobile 4 days before your passing is truly a blessing.
You gave Life your all and a great life you lead too. Working hard from the age of 14 to look after and protect your family. A True gentleman.
Always in Our hearts, You will be remembered fondly and often. So many great stories to tell your Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Love Always and Forever Dad. X
