In loving memory of Marie Normand who sadly passed away on 11th August 2022.

Marie was so loved by her family and friends for being such a thoughtful, loving, kind and caring person. Born in Essex, growing up in London and then living in Kent she was a registered general nurse who loved her job and had an amusing anecdote for every occasion based on her experiences of working in hospitals and prisons. Her training was cut short in the 1970s with the birth of her daughter Debra and she worked hard at a number of jobs, but not one to give up she picked up her nursing career again 12 years later and became a registered nurse.

Marie loved chatting on the phone, knitting and the seaside. She also loved Christmas and would always be armed with piles of presents for her family and Debra's cats. Marie homed a number of animals in need over the years from an escaped love bird to hamsters, but her real love was guinea pigs as she adored their individual personalities.

Taken from us too soon Marie is dearly missed by her partner Charlie, daughter Debra and the rest of her family and friends.

Marie was a constant in our lives for 30 years after meeting Charlie. They really were a perfect match, they had the same thoughts, views and sense of humour, at times it was like listening to a double act. Marie would regularly share hilarious stories about her experiences as a nurse which could bring you to tears. Marie was a lovely, personable lady who had a big heart for animals and a huge heart for guinea pigs.

We will miss Marie as will many others.

Love
Brian & Jackie

Greatly missed. I have many happy memories of Marie. Marie worked for us doing the ironing for our BnB. An absolute life saver. A nurse myself we shared experiences and her desire to return to nursing, which I supported and encouraged.
Marie was fun and engaging, loved dancing and it was during an evening dancing the night away that she met her soulmate Charlie.
Will miss you, love Sue xxxx

When I think of Auntie Marie I always think of her infectious laugh. I loved hearing her funny stories about nursing and life in general. She could always brighten any occasion.

Auntie Marie was also extremely kind and thoughtful. She never forgot mine or my children’s birthdays and we always recognised her cards in the post as she decorated the envelopes with bright and colourful stickers.
When my eldest son was born, she sent a bundle of the most beautiful, hand knitted cardigans and tops.

Auntie Marie was a special Aunt who was taken too soon.
We will miss you.

Love, Suzanne, Mark, Matthew and Thomas xx

Marie was such a lovely person who could always make our student nurse group laugh. When we got stressed, she was there to see the funny side. She was thoughtful, kind and so proud of her daughter Debra. We have regular nurse reunions and Marie always liked to come if she couldn't I would update her by phone. I will miss her, my thoughts are with Charlie, Debra and all the family. May she rest in peace.

Marie, Marie could talk and we loved it! Every year when she arrived for our nurses' reunion the room would light up! we would laugh and laugh! and had great evenings. Marie was kind, inquisitive and loved to hear about everybody's news. She cared about us and even when she couldn't make the last two reunions she wanted to know all the details about everyone and everything that happened. When I phoned her the next day, with two A4s full of information about everyone! I still couldn't keep up with all her questions about the group! To Marie ever since we all met up on the 2nd June 89 to start our nursing careers, we became family and she always felt a deep connection with us all, I will miss that, I will miss Marie.

I met Marie many years ago when we started nurse training. There were only 12 in our group so we became very close. Marie was an absolute joy to have in the group. Her kindness and humour helped me personally through some difficult placements. She always had a smile and made us all laugh. I will really miss her caring and joyful nature. Taken far too soon. May she rest in peace. My thoughts are with Debra, Charlie and her family and friends.

I met Marie about 19 years ago when I went to work at the Prison. she was a wonderful person to work with, she had a lot of experience, a great sense of humour and we used to have fun while working. As a friend she was one of a kind, she was thoughtful, kind and devoted to her friends and family. She often talked of how proud she was of her daughter Debra and always wanted her to be happy and she wanted Charlie to be happy and enjoyed their time together with wonderful memories. When she stopped working, we sued to talk on the phone for hours and it was always good to have a chat and catch up. She was a wonderful friend and no one else can take her place - unfortunately taken from us unexpectedly and too soon. she will be greatly missed.

Marie was the best mother in law, she was always supportive of everything we did and showed great interest in everything we were up to, in particular our house renovations, and especially our latest house which she loved. I always looked forward to showing her our latest work when she visited and would wonder what she would think about it while we were working on it.

I have very fond memories of our Boxing Days together where she knitted fantastic colourful catnip mice for our cats and we would all watch them playing with them in amongst the wrapping paper. She was a very warm, kind person and always took the time to talk to you and make sure you were okay, I felt I had someone looking out for me which I’m going to miss greatly. The one thing above all was she was very proud of Debra, the love they had for each other was clear to see and her passing has left a very large hole in our lives.

Auntie Marie was a very kind and thoughtful lady with a great sense of humour.

She always remembered my birthday with a kind gift; she welcomed Hayley to the family, taking the time and trouble to write her a personal letter which has been kept and will never be forgotten; and for her great Niece’s first birthday sent us a huge parcel containing lots of gifts and so many beautiful cardigans which were so appreciated and must have taken such a long time to knit. For us, it is these gestures that show the kindness of Auntie Marie. She will be missed x

I loved talking with Marie as she was an amazing raconteur with a very dry sense of humour.

What I remember most was her love for Debra and the great pride she had in Debra's many achievements.

Marie achieved a lot in her life although things weren't always easy for her. After her serious car accident she never gave up and remained positive even when she became more and more housebound. I think she was very brave all her life.

I will miss her very much.

Love Brenda

As her brother, having known Marie all her life, I find it very hard to accept that she is no longer here.

Since Debra was born, Marie focussed her life to ensure that she did all she could as her mum. In this endeavour, I believe she was truly successful and rightly a very proud mum of Debra.

I will miss our regular 2+ hour telephone conversations about family and life in general. Marie had such an amazing recall of detail and was funny with an uncanny ability for mimicry.

She also had a love of animals - not only her own but others that she would feed and look after that came to her home.

I will miss you very much and am grateful to you for being my sister.

Love Francis

My mum was the best, she really was. She has always been there for me, supporting and encouraging me every step of the way. She was so selfless and kind.

Nothing would make her laugh more than when people would say 'don't you look like your mum' to me but when I was younger I just couldn't see it, I can now and I'm pleased.

I have so many special memories of holidays by the seaside and our times together.
I miss my mum so much, I know I'm not alone there but there's no bond more special than that between mother and daughter.
