In loving memory of John Stanier who sadly passed away on 11th August 2022. Affectionately known as "Bert" or "Bertie" by close family and friends, John was a devoted husband to Sylvia for almost 59 years (they were together for 67 !), loving brother to sisters Andrea, Lesley and Gill, father to Jonathan, Isabel and Vanessa, grandfather to Jack, Harry and Lauren, Luke and Millie and great grandfather to Freddie and Frankie. John was much loved by all of the family including sons and daughter in-law Amanda, Tony and Richard, brothers and sisters in law and numerous neices and nephews and not forgetting "kinda" grandson Ethan.
John was a very keen and competitive sportsman and as a youngster was on the books of West Bromwich Albion. He played semi-professional football for the likes of Stourbridge and Alvechurch and and finished at the age of 42 playing for fun back where it all started at Richard Thomas Baldwins (British Steel).
Encouraged by his father to get a proper job, John became an apprentice at Baldwins which led to a lifetime in the steel industry where he successfully set up and ran several companies including well known stockholders Stanith Steels together with partner John Smith.
After football, John threw himself in to golf and really enjoyed his time at Churchill and Blakedown Golf Club where he held several posts including that of Captain. In later life he joined the Bescot Golf Society with his son Jonathan and they had some fabulous times and trips away.
John had a wicked sense of humour and loved life to the full but was always full of compassion and thoughts for others. He loved the sunshine and especially foreign holidays but also really enjoyed the fun family holidays at their caravan in Charmouth with his beloved dog, Sheba.. He loved being with family and loved a party !
He will be sorely missed by those that knew him.

Sylvia John Isabel Vanessa , firstly may I pass on my condolences and how sad I am at Bert’s passing. He was a great man and I shared many great memories with him and all of you. John was without doubt one of my favourite people and he will be greatly missed.
I am also very sad that I won’t be able to attend the funeral as I am away on holiday.
Love to you all.
Tony
