In loving memory of Doreen Joan Davison who sadly passed away on 30th July 2022, aged 86 years.

Donations in lieu of flowers would be gratefully received for 'Cancer Research UK' and may be made online via the link on this page.

Doreen loved her family and friends in her own way, and the following words are a tribute to that unconditional love.

Doreen was born on the 16th Feb 1936 and pretty soon after the second world war impacted the family with her older brother Brian and sister June being evacuated to Wales while Doreen remained in Gillingham with her mum and dad.

As she grew up Doreen started her educated ending up at Woodlands Road Girls school and on leaving school started to work in a butcher on Gads Hill not knowing that a certain young man, soon to enter her life would be working just down the road in Waterside Lane for 44-years. As short while after starting work Doreen met George, soon to be come the love of her life. While a little shy at first, he eventually plucked up the courage to speak to her and they started courting. While on National Service George proposed to Doreen and on 17th March 1956, they married at St Mary Magdalene Church on Gillingham Green. As George was still in the RAF Doreen stayed with her mother in Court Lodge Road but very soon became pregnant with daughter Julie who was born December 1957. Realising that they needed to set up home themselves when national service was completed, they found and bought their forever home in King Edward Road. The family became complete in February 1960 when Clive joined Julie as their much-loved children.

Doreen at this at this stage worked at the Odeon Cinema in Gillingham High-street where she remained for many years through the name change to the Classic Cinema until it closed making many lifelong friends.

Eventually Julie and Clive left the family home but provided Doreen with 5 wonderful Grandchildren who she loved intensely and who since provided her with 10 Great Grandchildren.

In 2011 disaster struck; George, the love of Doreen's life passed away. She was devastated at the loss and struggled to cope with the loss.

Life began to take its toll on Doreen and after a diagnosis of cancer she began to struggle. Thankfully the end came quickly for Doreen at home with Julie at her side.

While she has gone she has left a myriad of happy people in her wake who loved her.

I will always remember Doreen (who was like a Nan to me)for her warmth and lovely smile, we always had a good chat about things and her jolly approach to life and sense of humour will be missed. We enjoyed two trips to London together and we had lots of family meals together. A truly remarkable lady.
