In loving memory of Alan Paul Willis who sadly passed away on 1st July 2022, aged 70 years. Beloved Husband to Vivien, much loved Father to Nicola and Craig, Grandfather to three beautiful grandchildren and friend to many. His chatty, kind, loving ways will be sadly missed.
Alan absolutely loved dogs especially golden retrievers, mans best friend. He had a huge passion for anything motorised. He was a speedway rider and saved his first ever income as a teenager to buy his first car which he did up himself. He could fix and build anything that was thrown in front of him, he was a rock star on the guitar and his favourite time of year was definitely Christmas. He travelled the world and put all of his love and energy into his family and friends. He was the life of any situation and loved a good old chat. He knew the answer to any fact possible and loved to continue his learning and knowledge. He proudly graduated with a degree while working full time. He was a truly wonderful human who was loved by all.

I grew up with Alan in Darlington and we became good friends through school. We both went to Eastbourne Secondary School for boys from 1962 through 1966. A very tough school where you had to fight your own corner throughout school life. We played together and generally hung around all the time. We often went to the South Park which had a large roller Skating rink. I hated Alan as he was an accomplished roller skater and flew around that rink like a bullet, me, I couldn't roller skate at all. One day we decided to cycle from Darlington to Redcar, a fifty mile round trip, it was on school summer holidays and it was boiling. We cycled home and carried on to do our newspaper round. I joined the forces and Alan and his family move back down south.
Alan's daughter Nicola was an athlete and whilst she was training, Alan would walk the streets trying to find me or a member of my family. This he told me on later years. But I had relocated to Knaresborough.
I joined the Friends Reunited website in 2002, I filled in the joining form and went to bed after a night shift at the Fire Station. Alan found it and rung FB headquarters but was told they couldn't give out my personal details. Alan not to be put off, rung Harrogate Fire Station. The Secretary told Alan, if you ring this number after 7pm, he is on shift tonight.
Alan did. On answering the phone, I was gobsmacked to hear Alan's voice.
It tool him no time at all to organise a trip to Knaresborough. We chatted for ages. Then I took him the station where we already carried out a Chip Pan Fire demonstration.
We chatted on the phone for hours, Alan speaking, not me, I couldn't get a word on edgeways, that was Alan.
I was glad that we found each other again and spent time together whenever I was working near to Essex.
Loved him dearly and will miss him.
