In loving memory of Richard, also known as Dick to those who knew him, who was a loving Husband, Father, Grandad and Great-Grandad.

Dick married his wife Sheila in 1959, and were together for 62 years. In their time together they had 3 children, Tina, Jeffrey and Derek, which led on to having 4 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Richard and his wife Sheila moved from Teddington where they had lived most of their life, to Southampton where they came to be cared for by family.

In Dicks younger days, he worked as a Barrow boy with his Father, also known as Richard/Dick. He then went on to be draughted into the RAF as a rifle marksmen. After he left the RAF he worked a short time in a solicitors office, but couldnt take to it, so made a jump and got himself into the plumbing trade. Whilst taking on night school to get his qualifications as a Plumber, he worked for a while in the Mars factory in Slough, which the kids were overjoyed about as every Friday, Richard would bring home sweets. After a time Dick got his qualifications and became a Master Plumber, he loved the trade and worked right up until he retired.

Since retirement, he was known as a prolific tea drinker, with a love for his garden, baking and crossword puzzles. He loved a pint of Youngs Special/Old Speckled Hen and enjoyed the odd Whiskey, which Sheila never approved of! He loved to speak a bit of french and german, with the occasional 'Shalom' thrown in, usually when toasting a pint or arguing with the carers whilst trying to get him out of bed!

Dick / Dad / Grandad, is dearly missed every day, he was a family man, a gentleman, with brilliant morals, and truly was one of a kind. He has given all of us so many memories over the years that we will forever cherish and keep close to our hearts. Rest in Peace Dicky. 🕊

In loving memory of Richard Holmes who sadly passed away on 11th June 2022

The family have kindly requested donations in lieu of flowers to their chosen charity, thank you so much.

As a family we have chosen Dementia UK as our dedicated charity. Dick had been diagnosed with Vascular Dementia, and his wife Sheila has been diagnosed with Short-Term Dementia. It would be amazing to be able to donate to such an amazing charity, and we appreciate any donation given. Thankyou so much ❤

Well where do I start? With ‘guten tag’ normally! It was an absolute honour to have cared for Dick during the time I did. Although hard at times, he was usually an absolute gem for me with a spoonful of cheek. He made me smile on my bad days and cry with laughter on good days. Such a great man that will be truly missed by lots. I’ve plenty of tales to tell on you but I’ll keep them under lock and key. Thank you for making my day, always. I guess for now this is auf wiedersehen. Sleep tight 🕊 ❤️

Dick was a true gentleman. When I went to either Dick or Sheila it was not like being a carer , it was like visiting your favourite Uncle and Auntie. We used to laugh so much. Dick was a sod to get out of bed in the morning but I learnt early on that the best way was to bribe him with a cup of tea. I could be having the worst day but if either Dick or Sheila We're on my rota I knew it would soon brighten. It was a true honour to have been part of Dick's care . God bless my old mate, sleep well and may the cups of tea be constantly flowing up there X X X

The first time I had to visit Dick I was so amazed at his ability to do exactly what he wanted to do whether you liked it or not🙂 I would often dread the infamous shower call as I knew I would often end up running really late! But Dick was so lovable. I treasure our silly conversations and his verbal banter with his lovely wife Sheila I will treasure those memories. I am writing this with tears in my eyes.Rest in peace Richard you lovely gentleman. X

Uncle Dick - always enjoyed your baking when coming to visit. Always pleased to see us and always had a big smile at the door. So many fond memories of you growing up - coming home after a few tipples and auntie Sheila always telling you off lol. Rest in peace Uncle Dick - thank you for the memories that will always be treasured. Love Sharon x
