About Us

Belsay Woodland Burials is a picturesque natural burial ground in Northumberland.
The green funeral site is part of the historic Belsay Estate and opened in May 2018. It offers woodland burial plots, ashes plots and also provides spaces for the interment of ashes.
Open to all faiths, cultures and backgrounds, the site encourages families to hold a service that reflects the personality and wishes of the person who has died.
Belsay Woodland Burials is open to all sorts of green funeral ceremonies– whether religious or traditional funerals, non-religious or humanist celebrations, small graveside services, wakes or larger memorial gatherings.
The team can help you find a local funeral director, minister or celebrant to help arrange or lead a green burial. The natural burial ground has a timber framed building which can be hired for a celebration of life, funeral service or wake. Catering options are also available.
There are several memorial options available at Belsay Woodland Burials. Families can choose a native tree species, including oak, hawthorn, beech, aspen, silver birch, field maple or hazel. A memorial stone in slate or sandstone can also be purchased and be used as a grave marker.
This green burial ground is open to visitors throughout the year, with its office open Monday to Friday during regular business hours. The team is happy to take visitors around the site and can answer any questions you may have about green burials.
