A.W. Lymn’s Clifton funeral home, located at Charworth House on Varney Road, has been serving the local community since 1990. Originally converted from a butcher’s shop, the premises were transformed into a warm and welcoming space.
For more than 35 years, the Clifton team has been a dedicated part of the local community—supporting charitable causes, helping families arrange personal and meaningful funerals, and proudly contributing to projects such as the Clifton War Memorial.
The branch is managed by Funeral Director Jane Keetley, who joined A.W. Lymn following the acquisition of Ilkeston Co-op Funeral Care in 1994. Jane brings a wealth of experience and has previously worked at the company’s Wollaton and Radcliffe funeral homes before returning to Clifton—a place she once called home. Jane is overseen by Senior Funeral Director Edward Martin, ensuring continuity of high standards and compassionate care.
A.W. Lymn has exciting plans for the future of the Clifton branch. In 2021, the company purchased Bob Sherwin’s garage on Southchurch Drive, which was demolished to make way for a purpose-built, state-of-the-art funeral home. Construction is due to begin in 2025, marking a new chapter in the provision of local funeral care.
This branch is ideally situated to serve Clifton, Clifton Village, Clifton Grove, Wilford, Gotham, East Leake, The Meadows, Silverdale, Lark Hill retirement complex, Thrumpton, Kingston upon Soar, Barton in Fabis, and surrounding areas.
As part of A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service, a fifth-generation family-run business founded in 1907, the Clifton team remains committed to upholding a long-standing tradition of personalised and dignified funeral services. The company is led by directors Nigel, Matthew, and Jackie Lymn Rose.

The way lyms dealt with my mums service from start to finish was excellent. Their staf were caring compasionate and very professional throughout. Guilding us with warmth and care,making sure everything my mum asked for they made sure it was made possible including all the 3rd party services my mum needed. The drivers helped give me the stength to be able to walk my mum by myself like i promised right till the end on her last journey on earth.

Lymns have been very good throughout giving us details or changes whenever needed
The only problem I’d say is we never got dad’s fingerprint I have been told it should be policy to take finger prints straight away?
But Jane called to say the coroners couldn’t get a finger print as I’d had been too long which we are very upset about
On the day the lymns staff were very professional and Richard the celebrant was lovely,kind and professional as was Jane

We are however sorry to read that you were disappointed that we were unable to take dad’s fingerprint for you. I am not sure how you had been given the impression that we would take a fingerprint straight away, as we only take these when requested, but we are truly sorry that the time between dad’s passing and the date of arranging his funeral was so long, due to waiting for the Coroner’s paperwork to be issued, and that this meant we were unable to take his prints once he arrived back in our care.
