Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do when someone dies?

When someone dies you need to get a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death from a doctor, register their death and choose a funeral director to arrange their funeral. The Registration Office will give you a Death Certificate and Certificate for Burial or Cremation (GR021 in Northern Ireland).

How do you arrange a funeral?

You can arrange a funeral by choosing a funeral director who will help you organise all of the details. They can help you decide whether to have a cremation or burial and what type of service to choose, as well as additional options, such as music and flowers. You can find out what happens at a funeral and compare funeral directors on Funeral Guide.

How much does a funeral cost?

The cost of a funeral depends on where you are in the UK and whether you choose a burial or a cremation. Natural burial is becoming increasingly popular, but can often be more expensive than burial in a traditional cemetery. The cost of coffins, flowers, catering and transport also varies a lot. There is also an almost unlimited list of options for personalising a service, such as professional funeral singers or a motorcycle-hearse. You can compare the price of funeral directors on Funeral Guide.

The staff at Debbie Bennett Funeral Directors are fabulous. So thoughtful and caring. Special mention to Terriann in Bootle, who helped us throughout the whole process. I don’t know how we would have coped without her. Highly recommend Debbie Bennett Funeral Directors. They were excellent. Thank you to all the staff for arranging a fabulous send off for my Dad. You will always be in our hearts. Debbie Howarth and family xxx

The overall care and empathy shown to my father and the family during the whole process from start to finish was excellent. Both Mark, Sylvia and Irene from the Dovecot branch made us all feel at ease with the planning of the funeral and took the time to communicate with us at all times to let us know how things were progressing. Losing our dad is the hardest thing that has ever happened to our family. Mark and Co. Made it much easier for us to deal with. Thank you to all involved Neil Wilcock

From the consultation until the Funeral everything went as good as can be. Communication and sorting everything out was perfect no dramas or stress. Couldn't help enough with any questions we had.

The service my family received from Pam, Karen and Barbara was excellent. They showed kindness, respect and empathy to not only my family but most importantly to my Dad Mervyn.  It was noted by family and friends how respectful Pam was at my dads funeral which made a difficult day more bearable. Also the driver of our funeral car was really good with my son aged 8.  Planning the funeral of a loved one is one of the most difficult things to do in life. I could not have asked for anymore than the service we received. I feel that all  members of staff should be recognised for the work they do and I am grateful for having a shoulder to cry on when it was needed.
