Guide to Funeral Directors in Wigan

Mentioned by Henry II in a royal charter in 1246, Wigan is famous for its canalside wharf, Wigan Pier and its football and rugby teams. Part of Greater Manchester, Wigan is home to approximately 97,000 people. Serving these communities are around 20 funeral directors, with most of them concentrated in the centre of the city and several in the northern and southern parts of Wigan.

More than 80 per cent of Wigan’s residents identify as Christian, and there are also sizeable Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist communities in the town. If you are seeking a religious funeral, you should be able to find a funeral director that offers specialist services for people of these faiths. There are two mosques in Wigan, with the main mosque situated slightly to the south east of the city centre, and also a synagogue on Bold Street.

With 15 per cent of the population identifying as non-religious, funeral directors may also be able to provide secular or Humanist funeral services.

When it comes to finding a crematorium or cemetery, there are plenty of options in Wigan. Cemeteries and crematoria in Wigan include the Wigan Crematorium which lies to the south of the A577, the Gidlow Cemetery which is situated in the northern part of Wigan, and the Wigan Cemeteries Cremation Service in the centre.

The service we received was excellent. It was professional personal and friendly. We were kept updated every step of the way. Mum was well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. The funeral was thoughtful and caring and better than we could wish for during this lockdown. What could have been such an ordeal was smooth and as pain free as possible. My family cannot thank you enough .
