About Us
Cotton & Son is a family owned and run Funeral Directors which has been serving the community of Weymouth, Portland and the surrounding areas for over 100 years. Established in 1912, Cotton & Son has been providing families with care and support, guiding them through each step of arranging a funeral in a dignified and professional manner.
Until very recently, Cotton & Son was run under the personal supervision of Jane Cotton. Jane’s late husband Peter was the third generation of the Cotton family, following his father John and grand-father Edward into the business.
In June 2023, Jane entrusted her business to family funeral directors A.J. Wakely & Sons and continued working with A.J. Wakely & Sons until her retirement in mid-2024.
Cotton & Son continues under the care of Simon Wakely who is ably assisted by Principal Funeral Director and Office Manager Margaret Sherratt, who has been with Cotton & Son since 2005, and Funeral Director Nathan Westwood who joined the company in 2008. Both Margaret and Nathan are qualified Funeral Directors through the NAFD (National Association of Funeral Directors). Peter Smith joined Cotton & Son in 2018 and is currently training to be a Funeral Director under the stewardship of Simon and Margaret.
Along with a professional and sympathetic team of funeral assistants, bearers and drivers, Cotton & Son is a well-established and close-knit ‘family team’.
