Tynemouth Crematorium is situated within the grounds of Preston Cemetery in North Shields.

Following the cremation, the cremated remains could either be scattered in the Garden of Remembrance or buried in a ashes plot or family grave if available. Alternatively, the ashes may be given to the family by the funeral director in a biodegradable container for disposal or scattering elsewhere.The crematorium will be happy to hold the ashes for 7 days while you are deciding on the best option with your funeral director.

All coffins, linings or paints used must be eco friendly. The person who has died should be dressed in natural materials and any belongings or contents made from PVC, plastic or copper is not allowed in the coffin.

A funeral service takes place every 45 minutes, with 30 minutes of service time available at the chapel. Services are usually arranged on weekdays, but may be held on Saturday mornings at an additional charge. Families may also pay if they wish to extend the service time. Your choice of funeral music can be arranged as long as a request is made 48 hours before the funeral service.

A flower card with the name of the person who died will be displayed on the day of the cremation, offering family and friends a chance to offer floral tributes and sympathy cards if they would like to.
