Andy "Jiffy" Elkins (2 Jul 1960 - 14 Apr 2020)

I would like to donate something to this fantastic charity, in memory of Andy, who I did not know but heard so much about from his lovely wife Julie

I worked closely with Jif, at Crypton, for about 25 years. We spent many happy hours driving together, mostly to places which could test the equipment he had designed. There was never a dull moment with his lively sense of humour and loudly putting the world to rights. He would often finish with " course, I've got no strong opinions about it". I didn't live locally, so he soon introduced me to Uncle Ernie and Cousin Phil, to get new car tyres. He demonstrated the dedicated effort and enthusiasm which the carnival clubs put in, not just building the carts but year long fundraising ( pram racing etc) and the carnival concerts before the parade season. I well remember him singing his heart out on stage and always tried to spot him in the parades, monitoring the generator. My boys loved his description of electrical faults as "dark brown smells". He did a voluntary NVQ on designing and building the electrical system of carnival carts, leaving a written historical legacy, wherever it is now. His loss is a shock for all of us and leaves me with memories of a good friend, larger than life figure, always the life and soul of the party. Bye Jif!

Andy put in a lot of work to help my Hinkley visits go as smoothly as possible. On some occasions I was even able to get some work done!! I will miss you Andy, my "brother from behind". If we do meet again, you can be Happy and I'll be Grumpy - just for a change!

Where do I start, no words can describe what you were to me and always will be.
I have known Jif for 40+ years (since I was 1), he was always one of the family. We carried our friendship to Cavaliers.
Through the years he has bathed me, looked after me, and most important he taught me to drink.
He was always looking out for all of us, even when drunk.
Then one day he found who he was destined to be with 'Julie', they gave us all 2 wonderful girls, Steph and Nic, which he was so proud of.
Jif always moaned when I popped round, just told him to shut up and stay in the back room.
He will never be gone, as he lives on through all of us and our memories. He will always be cherished.
I'm sure we will all still sing "Daydream believer ", as we are being evicted from the pub, just for you Jif.

One day we will meet again.

Just cannot find the right words but the fun, the laughs, the silly things in carnival will stay with me forever. You were and will always be remembered as such a special, kind, friendly, loveable person. Always in my thoughts my very special friend. I just wish I was not writing this. Godbless sweetheart 💔x

Goodbye Jiffy. They say that a good person never truly dies because they live on in people by how they are remembered, how they have influenced you, how they have changed your life. Well, never a truer word was said about you, buddy. You have changed everyone who knew you and have enriched our lives.

You and I shared some great times together and you really did brighten the place up. And boy did we have some laughs. In fact I cannot remember a single day in the thirty years that I have known you that we weren’t laughing and joking about something or other. You always brightened my day up, and I will cherish these memories forever.

So very sad to have lost you Jiffy, but so, so much better for having known you.
